Lecrae Performance Lyrics:

“They tellin’ us make “America Great Again”

I’m like hol’ up, when was America great again?

Was it when they took us from our native land?

Or maybe it was when they took the natives’ land?

Let me be quiet

Nah

‘Cause being silent is pitiful

It’s something I never do

After Philando, man, I’m wondering where was you?

They ask for your opinion

All you thinking is revenue

Never do

I pray to God he make you a better you

Now, I know

Some of us we don’t know who we are

We’re too content with the gold and the cars

We got low self-esteem chasing dreams

With a goal in our heart

But society then drove us apart

Look at us from sellin’ dope to our own kind

To a dope rhyme

Radio then played it more times

Paid in more dimes

To some industry exec

Getting checks

From a private prison

With the rap money he invest

Now, I know you’re like is this rap or is this gospel

Look, all you need to know is that I was blind

Now I’m not though

Real recognize real

If they don’t love me like ‘Pac

They gon’ respect how I’m moving

And then I’m never gonna stop

‘Cause we was taken from Africa

Sold and treated like animals

Culturally denigrated and separated from families

But somehow we made it this far

And stood firm

With nappy hairs and perms

Led for two terms”

Jack Hakimian’s Response

1) Lecrae: [Was it when they took us from our native land? Or maybe it was when they took the natives’ land?]

Jack: Historically were we taken or sold/betrayed by black polticians? Which is worse: your people betraying or the Europeans and Muslims who purchased us and sold us from African rulers? Where is the prophetic that critique’s comprehensively?

2) Lecrae: [“They tellin’ us make “America Great Again”]

Jack: What does Trump mean by make America great again? Was there a time when African American cultural, educational, family, and community life, well as black owned business was greater? Could that be the great?

3) Lecrae: [Some of us we don’t know who we are

We’re too content with the gold and the cars

We got low self-esteem chasing dreams]

Jack: Our contentment with gold cars is it because of low self esteem or sin? What saved Lecrae personally by his own admission? A gospel that confronted his sinfulness and pointed to a Jewish Messiah, or a message that you are a victim and your condition is this way because of your skin/whites/social oppression that still suppresses opportunities?

4) Lecrae: [Look at us from sellin’ dope to our own kind

To a dope rhyme, Radio then played it more times, Paid in more dimes, To some industry exec, Getting checks, From a private prison

With the rap money he invest]

Jack: Who’s fault is it we poison our own kind with dope? What political party are the industry executives affiliated with? Why did Clinton’s enlarge private prisons in 90s and why did rap become more gangsta, drug, and misogynistic in 1990s? Why did private prisons who gave the largest contributions to Democrats and Clinton’s meet with Hip Hop white Democratic execs in 90s to change the direction of rap? Why is Lecrae rolling with black artist and leaders who part of the very Democrats who fought for slavery, Jim Crow, abortion, economic impoverishing policies in inner cities, incarcerations in their communities and private prison partnerships with their community?

5) [Look, all you need to know is that I was blind

Now I’m not though, Real recognize real, If they don’t love me like ‘Pac, They gon’ respect how I’m moving, And then I’m never gonna stop]

Jack: How is he moving now? Away with a social philosophy that contradicts the Gospel and the holistic teachings of scripture/natural law on issues such as shedding innocent blood, entrepreneurialism based on gifting and economic community stewardship, sexual ethics, family priority, minimal role of government or clergy to shape family and micro-communities, Christian ethics influencing policy, self empowerment, forgiveness, etc.

Lecrae is drifting not evolving.
